DEL THEN...
DEL NOW...

Born in the early 1920s, Del Arte's (a.k.a. Delmore Arthur Carraway), career is older than most people. As a young man, Del toured the vaudeville circuit as a magician, and was the featured act with Buddy B's Tassel Revue (which is where he met his wife, Ivy Crockett). After an unfortunate experience with George Burns (which we can not get into for legal reasons), Del and Ivy moved to Los Angeles, where he found work as a radio actor. His memorable characters include: Sherman Shutupp on The Kooky Kavan Show and Warren Tracy on Warren Tracy-Private Dic. But most people will remember him as the lovable voice of Norman Bait-Worm (the trademark character for The House Of Squid Seafood Restaurants).

Later, he worked as a music director for numerous plays, such as; I See You Tommy Peeper, P.M.S. Pinafore- A Period Piece, and was the resident announcer/pianist for many years at The Pico Lake Awards For Theatrical Exuberance (The P.L.A.T.E.s).  He is also the founder of The Little Tramp Mime Company, bringing over thirty years of experience to the art form (though he did not take up mime until last Summer).  He has won some praise for his unusual one-man shows, It's Like I'm Losing My Mime and Look Damn It, It IS There!, and is well known throughout his community for his street mime and other public displays, receiving numerous citations (only two actual convictions). Del also received a humanitarian award in 1975 for his generous work with the shut-ins at Our Lady Of The Indicative Goiter (where he taught non-creative movement).

Television audiences may recognize Del as Professor Y. I. Otter, from the children's show The Magic Of Things, and he was the voice and puppeteer for Chipper and Mr. Lawn on the popular Squirrel Theatre.  When his wife Ivy retired from performing, Del exchanged show biz for solitude.  But after seeing a late night television infomercial, and realizing he too had a lifetime's worth of invaluable information he could push on the public, Del created his first mail-order video course: So This Is Funny?  The Average Joe's Guide To Stand-Up Comedy.  Future plans include a national tour teaching (and selling) the course to average Joe's and Josette's (watch for dates at a Holiday Inn near you)!

In the spring of 1996, he hosted Del Arte's Vaudeville Palace (Cheeca Bar & Grill, West Hlwd.), for six months.  He so enjoyed performing again, that hes come out of retirement with an arthritic vengeance!  During 1997, at Just For Laughs comedy club (Reno Hilton), he headlined 5 out of 6 contractual performances by agreeing to also open and play piano for Saturday Night Live's Miss Victoria Jackson (though he did receive a case of Denture-Grip). He then went on to host a vadeville night for Theatre Neo (where he serves as their musical director), re-creating, for the first time in years, his famous FIRE Act (fortunately, thier theatre still stands, but Del's props didn't fair so well). And several apperances at Hilarities Comedy Club (Cleveland, OH), have kept him nimble...and away from any and all open flame!

After M.C.ing a magic show in Laughlin, NV, (Fall 2002), Del was inspired to return to the stage...this time as a legitimate actor. In the Spring of 2003 he appeared in his self-written one-man show "I'm Getting My Act Together... Before I Die" as part of Theatre Neo's "O Solo Neo" evenings (The Hudson Avenue Theatre, Hlwd. CA) BACKSTAGE WEST Review: ...Del Arte' offers an amusing, ultimately touching portrait of an old-time entertainer valiantly trying to cope with his encroaching senescene and redundancy in a changing world".
April 2005 found Del opening for a real legend, comic Dom Irrera, back at Hilatities Comedy Club (Cleveland, OH). Currently Del's on hiatus until he gets his wits back... (which may take a while)! Thanks for visiting.
